The Sound of Folk Tales: Hong Kong Recap

LEGENDS OF SHANGHAI.TOKYO.NEW YORK RELOADED

The World Premiere of ‘The Sound of Folk Tales’ was a huge success earlier this month at The New Vision Festival, Sha Tin Town Hall, Hong Kong. ‘The Sound of Folk Tales’ was created by two boundary-breaking Chinese-American musicians, Dana Leong and Dave Liang, fusing sounds from then and now on a riveting, cross-cultural journey taking in hip hop, jazz and electronic music.

Leong and Liang have individually established their commanding presence within the North American music scene in recent years, earning a sterling reputation for their postmodern eclecticism where east meets west and the old and new ignite into pioneering musical endeavors. In ‘The Sound of Folk Tales’, the two innovative musical stars teamed up for the first time live for a scintillating journey that travels from Shanghai to Tokyo and over to New York. Roaming between these three great cultural metropolises closest to their roots, Leong and Liang respond to today’s digital age by retelling legends of the cities through animation, live music and narration. The result is a refreshingly original encounter with cross-cultural fusion and multimedia mash-up.
