It’s crazy to think that we’ve made it to 10 years already.
First, I’d like to acknowledge those who are affected by the massive earthquake and tsunami in the Sendai region 10 years ago. Were it not for your sacrifice and resilience, we would never have set out on the inspired journey to heal the world with music. It has been a journey and a half, using music to heal people in and related to disaster regions of the world.
There were times where I did it alone.
Sometimes with a few.
And sometimes with a BUNCH!
We worked with great people learned immensely along the way
We went by land, by sea, by air.
We explored ways to use technology in our creations.
We won some awards and hit some milestones.
But best of all, we gave and gave again. We started from a seemingly hopeless place and then recently came full circle when we were able to give a full scholarship to a student who went to focus on the business of disaster risk innovations. That student became the first ever scholarship student in the history of one of the top business schools to graduate as valedictorian!
Making art is like any romantic relationship. It’s beautiful, it’s stressful, it’s vulnerable and when it works, it can last a long time. So thankful to still have the same TEKTONIK friends and collaborators a decade in.
Am I afraid? A little. I hope that the next 10 years and more will be as groundbreaking and as rewarding as the last. I hope we can visit the same level of vulnerability and honesty that allowed us to create and access limitless expression. I hope that we’ll be able to be as impactful and valuable to the world as ever before.
